Senior Economist/Project Manager - Environmental Economics
About the Role
ECOnorthwest, the leading economics consulting firm in the Pacific Northwest, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Economist/Project Manager in our Environmental and Natural Resource Economics Practice Area. This role is ideal for a master’s-level economist or applied economics professional with project management experience, especially in consulting. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your economics expertise to inform public policy on topics in natural resource management, climate resilience, and renewable energy.
As a Senior Economist/Project Manager, you will lead interdisciplinary teams to conduct economic analysis that informs critical policy decisions impacting the environment and natural resources. You’ll use economic methods to evaluate the benefits, costs, risks, and tradeoffs of various resource management strategies for private clients, state agencies, and federal resource management agencies.

Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Economist/Project Manager, you will:
- Design and manage multiple projects simultaneously for public and private-sector clients, coordinating tasks across interdisciplinary teams
- Conduct or oversee economic analyses, integrating qualitative and quantitative economic research methods to inform complex natural resource management decisions.
- Oversee project scopes, budgets, consulting teams, and deliverable production to meet professional standards, project requirements, client expectations, and financial targets.
- Serve as a primary client contact, working closely with clients and senior team members to ensure project goals align with client needs.Support business development and networking efforts by contributing to proposals and expanding professional connections.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s Degree (or higher) in Natural Resource Economics, Economics, Applied Economics, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years in applied economics consulting or related field (a master’s degree may substitute for 2 years) with a topical area focus in areas such as agriculture, water resources, habitat conservation, climate, forest resource management, ecosystem services, or renewable energy.
- Skills: Proficiency in economic methods, such as benefit-cost analysis, socioeconomic impact analysis, policy evaluation, input-output modeling, econometrics, and an ability to synthesize data across economics, policy, and natural sciences and explain findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Technical: Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite; additional experience with statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, Python) and familiarity with GIS tools or input-output modeling software (e.g., IMPLAN, REMI) is desirable.

Location, Salary Range, & Schedule
- Work from one of our office locations in Portland, Bend, Seattle, or Los Angeles.
- Hybrid work schedule with in-office work expected Tuesday through Thursday for collaboration.
- Salary Range: $105,300 - $113,700 (commensurate with experience and location)
